I personally feel that I wouldn't want anyone selling my work that they got for free on the internet. I think its fine if they use it to discover new things, but there's a fine line here.
I would tend to agree, since you put it that way. I have actually downloaded music illegally that I wanted to hear, but wasn't sure I'd like, which resulted in me going to iTunes, and buying the artist's album to support them. As a musician myself, I wouldn't care so much if somebody torrented my material, because I would like some exposure. If I get exposure, odds are that people will come, and support me monitarily if the product I put out is worth it. If not, they haven't lost anything, and they can show me how bad I suck with their wallet.
I think having music and movies online is wodnerful. There is so much music I'd never have heard otherwise. I'd still be listening to music I'm relaly not a fan of now. That said, I also believe that if you have the money and like what you hear/see, go out and support its creators ... ESPECIALLY self-published creators.
Hi. I'm no longer a CL, but I will say this. Careful to people who respond to this topic, as anything advocating piracy is against the Terms of Service, and you're liable to find yourself warned at the least, banned at the most. I'm not saying don't respond, just be careful in how you do. It's the whole term about not advocating illegal activity.
Don't worry I'll notify my union rep if I see anything that exploits us musicians asap.
the thing is all I will say is I am okay with it if I was to produce something and you were to redistribute it as I'd put it out there as a free and open source I only require that people give me the credit it doesn't matter how much they give it out, but certainly can't sell it. I am not producing art for money I am producing art for arts sake or two spread a message.
Piracy is only a symptom of a larger problem with the MPAA and RIAA.
Both are aging dinosaurs that need to be put out to Pasteur.
